Conditions we treat with FES

FES can help improve function after brain or spinal cord damage. Our physiotherapists at Manchester Neuro Physio can assess you and see whether FES would help you in your everyday life. FES can help if you have one of the following conditions:

• Head injury
• Cerebral Palsy
• Incomplete spinal cord injury

The above conditions all affect brain and spinal cord.

Conditions affecting the peripheral nerves (nerves connecting the body to the spinal cord) cannot be treated with FES. These include:

• Peripheral nerve injuries
• Guillian-Barre Syndrome

FES cannot be used to treat these conditions but neurological physiotherapy can still be really beneficial.
