Meningitis

Meningitis

Meningitis is inflammation of the meninges, which are membranes that surround the spinal cord. Meningitis is most common in children under the age of 5, and this is classed as a medical emergency and needs to be seen by a medical professional immediately. When the meninges become inflamed in children under 5 they can cause a fever, drowsiness, floppiness, and seizures. In older children and teenagers it can cause muscle pain, stiff neck, severe headaches, drowsiness and vomiting.

Physiotherapy treatment can help with the secondary effects of meningitis such as muscle weakness and poor balance.

Here at Manchester Neuro Physio we can help by rehabilitating your child back to their prior function enabling them to play with their friends or participate in sport.
