Physiotherapy Treatment for Cerebral Palsy

Physiotherapy Treatment for Cerebral Palsy

Our Specialist Neuro Paediatric Physiotherapists at Manchester Neuro Physio will carry out a thorough assessment and create a personalised treatment plan focusing on your child's strengths and weaknesses.

Physiotherapy Treatment can include:

  • Strengthening exercises to help strengthen your child's weak muscles and improve function. Our Paediatric Physiotherapists will do this with fun engaging activities to motivate your child and make the sessions fun while gaining strength and function.
  • Stretching exercises, this could be done by the physiotherapist (passively) or actively by the child. This is important to keep your child as functional as possible and also make them more comfortable by preventing contractures.
  • Balance and proprioception (being aware of your body in space) exercises could be included to help your child's core strength.
  • Hydrotherapy treatment
  • Gait training (walking) this involves breaking down the movement of walking and assessing where your child is weak and then targeting these areas making them strong and improve walking
  • Upper limb training, such as developing large movements such as putting your child's arm over their head or small movements such as holding a coin.
  • Massage, to try and regulate tone (making your child's arm less stiff or less floppy)

Your child's goals are at the centre of our treatments, in the aim of developing their skills and function and therefore improving their quality of life.
