Acquired Brain Injury Physiotherapy There is no single "cure" or treatment for an acquired brain injury and some children will never return to their prior self. However Physiotherapy can help improve function and return skills that the child previously had. This is a slow ongoing process that can be frustrating for parents but here at Manchester neuro physio our Physiotherapists understand the frustration and will provide personalised treatment plans for your child to help them make the most successful recovery possible. Treatment can include: Strengthening exercises to strengthen weakened muscles and to make new connections in the brain telling the muscles to contract. Breaking down complex tasks such as eating, by splitting the movement into achievable tasks such as practising holding the fork, then piercing food with the fork and then moving the fork to the mouth. It make take a couple of weeks to achieve holding the fork successfully, but success of a task strengthens connections in the brain making that task easier and more automatic. Balance exercises to improve balance and body awareness. Walking exercises Fine motor exercises such as playing with play doh, drawing and counting coins to improve hand function.
