Benefits of Thermoplastic Splinting There are a number of benefits associated with splinting such as: Increased range of motion Increased functional use of limbs such as grip strength Protection for your wrist and thumb Decreased pain Decreased joint stiffness Pain-free and comfortable Reduces or eliminates the need for surgery Increase in confidence Splints are functional and can be worn overnight or occasionally during the day. Your physiotherapist will encourage you to wear your splint when your wrist or thumb may be feeling weak or if you are feeling more discomfort than possible. It's not recommended to wear the splint continuously throughout the day as this can cause the muscles to weaken.
