Walkaid The walk aid system uses tilt technology and FES to analyse the movement of the leg and provide muscle stimulation to treat dropped foot. The machine attaches to a cuff which surrounds your child's leg and stimulates the foot to lift with every step. The electrical stimulation is gentle that can be easily adjusted by a physiotherapist to make it suitable to them. It is a battery operated machine which communicates to a computer by Bluetooth when being set up and for follow up appointments. The machine is personalised to your child's normal walking pattern. The stimulation activates the nerves which supply the muscles that lift the foot up, it does this using electrodes. The electrodes stick inside the cuff via Velcro so you and your child don't have to worry about placing them correctly every day or worrying about them moving as your child completes their everyday activities. Your child's physiotherapist will adjust the sizing of the cuff to fit your child during their initial appointment. Walkaid has different settings enabling functional walking and running and also has an exercise mode to enable muscles to be strengthened whilst resting. If you think your child will befit from using a walkaid device, please call our clinic to book an appointment with one of our physiotherapists today!
