Pre-op SDR Surgery Physiotherapy Treatment

Pre-SDR surgery we can offer two types of services:

• We can assess your child and write a report to whether we think SDR surgery would benefit your child.
• We can also help your child pre-operatively by strengthening leg and trunk muscles, focusing on the antigravity muscles which can be weaker post op. Pre-operative physiotherapy has shown to speed up recovery post SDR surgery. One of the biggest misconceptions of SDR surgery is that is leads to muscle weakness. SDR doesn't affect muscle weakness it just removes the spasticity, but spasticity can hide motor weakness and when spasticity is removed physiotherapy is needed to strengthen these weak muscles.
