Paediatric Chronic Lung Disease Chronic lung disease occurs in new born babies and children who's lungs may not be fully developed many require the use of a mechanical ventilator and extra oxygen for breathing. Chronic lung disease usually occurs due to a decrease amount of surface in the lungs. Surfactant is made up of fats protein and lines our airways helps keep the tiny air sacs called alveoli open. During injury tissue inside the lungs can become damaged, with injury, tissues may become fragile and easily damaged, this can cause scarring. Scarring can result in difficulty breathing and requires increased oxygen. To book an assessment or for more information please email office@manchesterneurophysio.co.uk call 0161 883 0066 .
