Physiotherapy treatment for IIDDs will depend on the specific presentation of your condition. IIDD's may affect you in different ways. Your physiotherapist will conduct a thorough assessment of your needs in order to establish appropriate goals and an individual treatment programme. Treatment may include:/p>

  • Facilitation of normal movement patterns
  • Positioning advice to manage increased muscle tone or spasticity
  • Exercises to improve balance and reduce risk of falls
  • Gait re-education to improve the quality of your walking pattern and independence
  • Advice regarding appropriate walking aids to maximise your function
  • Provision of orthotics to improve the quality of your walking pattern
  • Home assessment to establish appropriate equipment to maximise your function
  • Pain management techniques
  • Hydrotherapy treatment if appropriate
  • Referral to Occupational therapy and Speech therapy if necessary

We understand the impact that IIDDs can have on your life and those around you; we will aim to reduce the effects as far as possible to keep you active and independent.
