Your physiotherapist will perform a thorough assessment of your needs in order to establish the most appropriate treatment for you. Once your specific problems have been identified your physiotherapist will discuss goals for treatment and the different options available to you which will be reviewed regularly. Treatment may include:

  • Exercises to work on improving muscle strength
  • Stretching programme to work on reducing stiffness and maintaining range of movement
  • Provision of orthotics to accommodate foot deformities
  • Provision of orthotics to improve the quality of your walking pattern and reduce the risk of falls
  • Provision of walking aids and other equipment to maximise your safety and independence
  • Exercises to improve your balance and coordination
  • Exercises to maintain your general fitness and manage fatigue
  • Pain management techniques
  • Referral to Occupational therapy if appropriate
  • Hydrotherapy treatment if appropriate

Despite the condition being degenerative physiotherapy can be helpful at any stage of your condition in order to maximise your potential, minimise the secondary effects of the condition and improve your quality of life.
