Chest physiotherapy can help prevent thick, sticky mucus in the lungs from blocking airways and help with breathing and reduce the likelihood of infection.

Techniques which are commonly used to help with the management of cystic fibrosis is:

  • Active cycle of breathing techniques
  • Autogenetic draining
  • Postural drainage
  • Positive Expiratory Pressure (PEP)
  • Percussions
  • High Frequency chest wall oscillation, (An inflatable jacket which creates a oscillatory vibration which helps clear mucus)
  • Postural advice
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Management of breathlessness

During your initial assessment with the physiotherapist they will advise your child on which method of treatment is best suited for you depending
